RESUMO

With the aim to meet the greatest challenge facing organic batteries, namely the low conductivity of the electrodes, the electrochemical properties of a series of substituted perylene diimides able to form semi-conductive columnar material are investigated. Depending on the substituent group, a strong influence of this group on the reversibility, redox potential but especially on the gravimetric capacity of the electrodes is observed. In the case of substitution by a simple propyl group, the corresponding diimide shows a complete electrochemical activity with only 10% by mass of conductive additive and even shows a half-capacity activity without any additive and without particular electrode engineering. Extensive research has highlighted the intrinsic reactivity of the columnar material but also its perpetual rearrangement during charge/discharge cycles. This study shows that the amount of conductive additive can be significantly reduced by adapting the design of the molecular material and favoring the assembly of redox units in the form of a conductive column.

RESUMO

In this work, analytical study of carbofuran (CAF) and fluometuron (FLM) pesticides was carried out using direct spectrofluorimetric method in various solvents. Results showed that CAF and FLM are naturally fluorescent in all solvents under study including organic (MeOH, MeCN, DMF) and aqueous micellar one (CTAC, SDS, Brij-700). For the analysis of FLM, CTAC give the best fluorescence signal enhancement. Analytical performances, such as limit of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) was evaluated after solvent optimization and were found to vary, respectively, between 0.1 and 11 ng mL- 1 and between 0.3 and 36.6 ng mL- 1. Analytical application in various environmental aqueous samples matrices (sea, tap, runoff and well waters) give satisfactory recovery rates in the limits of 73.7-113.7% for both pesticides. This method is described for its simplicity for routine analysis.

RESUMO

The growing awareness of the environment and sustainable development has prompted the search for solutions involving the development of bio-based composite materials for insulating applications, offering an alternative to traditional synthetic materials such as glass- and carbon-reinforced composites. In this study, we investigate the thermal and microstructural properties of new biocomposite insulating materials derived from flaxseed-gum-filled epoxy, with and without the inclusion of reinforced flax fibers. A theoretical approach is proposed to estimate the thermal conductivity, while the composite's microstructure is characterized using X-ray Computed Tomography and image analysis. The local thermal conductivity of the flax fibers and the flaxseed gum matrix is identified by using effective thermal conductivity measurements and analytical models. This study provides valuable insight into the thermal behavior of these biocomposites with varying compositions of flaxseed gum and epoxy resin. The results obtained could not only contribute to a better understanding the thermal properties of these materials but are also of significant interest for advanced numerical modeling applications.

RESUMO

We discussed about the influence of extraction mode on the flaxseed gums composition and their thermal stabilities. In order to do so, flaxseed gum was extracted by both classical magnetic stirring method and ultrasonic-assisted extraction (UAE). As a function of time, protein content, gum yield, pH values were evaluated and samples were characterized by 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments as well as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The flaxseed gum extracted in aqueous solution correspond to a mixture of different components, including polysaccharides, proteins and sometimes lignan derivatives. It is found that the protein and gum contents increase with the extraction duration for both the ultrasonic assisted and the traditional extraction while the pH decreases at the same time. As expected, compared to traditional magnetic stirring method, ultrasonic assisted extraction method can significantly enhance the yield of polysaccharides, lignans and proteins. The variation of pH is correlated to the increase of lignan molecules in the extracted samples. For thermic methods, SEM experiments showed that lignan derivatives which ester-bonded to polysaccharides associated to proteins are responsible to the formation of globular aggregates. Supplementary rod-like molecular organization were obtained from UAE and questions on the nature of the amphiphilic mesogen carbohydrate structures.

RESUMO

The substitution of toxic precursors such as bisphenol A by renewable and safer molecules has become a major challenge. To overcome this challenge, the 12 principles of green chemistry should be taken into account in the development of future sustainable chemicals and processes. In this context, this paper reports the highly efficient synthesis of oligo-isosorbide glycidyl ethers from bio-based starting materials by a rapid one-pot heterogeneous ultrasound-assisted synthesis. It was demonstrated that the use of high-power ultrasound in solvent-free conditions with sodium hydroxide microbeads led for the first time to a fully epoxidated prepolymer with excellent epoxy equivalent weight (EEW). The structure of the epoxy precursor was characterized by FT-IR, NMR spectroscopy and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). The efficiency of the ultrasound-assisted synthesis was attributed to the physical effects caused by micro-jets on the surface of the solid sodium hydroxide microspheres following the asymmetrical collapse of cavitation bubbles.

RESUMO

Starch nanoparticles were produced by dialysis method from octenyl succinic anhydre (OSA) and 1,4-butane sultone (BS). The properties of the self-assembled nanoparticles were characterized by NMR spectroscopy (DOSY), fluorescence spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering (DLS). In order to investigate the formation of hydrophobic microdomains, the Nile Red dye was used as a fluorescent probe to evaluate the critical aggregation concentration (CAC) of modified starch in aqueous solution. The results show that the entrapment of the molecular guest was effective and only restricted by the solubility limit of the starch. Then, the modified starch was applied to solubilize benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) in view of degradation by Fenton process. Finally, it has been shown that 95% of BaP was degraded when it was encapsulated in OSA-BS-starch nanoparticles.

RESUMO

The effects of various trivalent lanthanide ions (acetates of Ce3+, Er3+, Eu3+, Nd3+) on the electronic absorption and fluorescence spectra of un-substituted coumarin-3-carboxylic acid (CCA) and 7-N,N-diethylamino-coumarin-3-carboxylic acid (DECCA) have been investigated in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) at room temperature. Depending on the lanthanide ion nature and concentration, significant spectral changes of absorption bands occurred for both coumarin derivatives. These spectral changes were attributed to the formation of ground-state complexes between the coumarin carboxylate derivatives and lanthanide ions. The fluorescence quenching of CCA and DECCA upon increasing the lanthanide ion concentration was studied. Different quantitative treatments, including the Stern-Volmer equation, the Perrin equation and a polynomial equation, were applied and compared in order to determine the nature of the quenching mechanisms for both coumarin derivatives. The results suggested the contribution of both dynamic and static quenching. Significant differences of CCA and DECCA fluorescence quenching efficiency were also observed, depending on the lanthanide ion. DECCA fluorescence lifetime measurements, performed in the absence and in the presence of Ln3+, confirmed a contribution of static quenching.

RESUMO

Herbicide metolachlor (MET) and insecticide buprofezin (BUP) were determined in natural waters by means of a newly-developed, simple and sensitive thermochemically-induced fluorescence derivatization (TIFD) method. The TIFD approach is based on the thermolysis transformation of naturally non-fluorescent pesticides into fluorescent complex O-phthalaldehyde-thermoproduct(s) in water at 70°C for MET and at 80°C for BUP. The TIFD method was optimized with respect to the temperature, pH, complex formation kinetic and pesticides concentrations. The limit of detection (LOD=0.8ngmL(-1) for MET and 3.0ngmL(-1) for BUP) and quantification (LOQ=2.6ngmL(-1) for MET and 9.5 ngmL(-1) for BUP) values were low, and the relative standard deviation (RSD) values were small (between 1.2% and 1.8%), which indicates a good analytical sensitivity and a great repeatability of TIFD method. Recovery studies were performed on spiked well, sea and draining waters samples collected in the Niayes area by using the solid phase extraction (SPE) procedure. Satisfactory recovery results (84-118%) were obtained for the determination of MET and BUP in these natural waters.

RESUMO

This paper concerns spectrofluorometric analysis of putrescine using orthophthaladehyde as a fluorophore in aqueous alkaline medium. Wavelengths of excitation and emission in acid, neutral, and alkaline media were different. There is a maximum intensity of fluorescence in alkaline medium 24 h after complexation compared with other media. Putrescine and orthophthaladehyde are used at an equimolar ratio, and the product is kinetically stable in alkaline medium. Calibration curves obtained gave limits of detection and quantification of 39 and 65 ng/mL, respectively. The correlation coefficient obtained in alkaline medium was 0.992 at pH 12. Results obtained largely showed a good reproducibility of our method.

RESUMO

The main objective of this work was to determine the impact of pesticide use practices on vegetables contamination in the Niayes zone of Dakar. A preliminary survey involving 200 farmers, showed the application of pesticides belonging to different groups on vegetable crops. Use practices in terms of application intervals and methods, measuring tools and dosage were not in compliance with good agricultural practices. In view of survey results, investigations on vegetable contamination were conducted. Therefore, 175 vegetable samples including cabbage (31 samples), lettuce (88 samples), tomato (57 samples) collected from four sites of the Niayes zone during four campaigns, were analyzed for residues of 21 pesticides, eighteen of which (18) were cited to be used by farmers. The results indicated that 65% of tomato samples, 71% of lettuce and 93% of cabbage contained one or more detectable residues. Among the monitored pesticides dicofol, chlorpyrifos, DDTs, dimethoate, and λ-cyhalothrin were the most predominant, found in at least 35% of samples for each vegetable. The frequencies of pesticide detection were, generally in agreement with the citation frequencies. The results provided important information on vegetable contamination status and pointed an urgent need to control pesticide use.

RESUMO

This work reports on an efficient microwave irradiation synthesis of a new fluorescent chemosensor based on desferrioxamine B (DFO-B) and carbazole moiety. Furthermore, this novel chemosensor was employed for a comparative study of real environmental samples of airbone particulate matter collected from Dunkirk (Northern of France). Among selected relevant metal cations present in its airbone particulate matter, such as Na(+), K(+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Al(3+), Cr(3+), Mn(2+) and Zn(2+), this molecular device proved to be outstandingly sensitive toward Fe(3+) with a limit of detection of 1.49 ppb (2.1×10(-8) M) in methanol allowing the estimation of total iron in atmospheric particles.

RESUMO

A new class of polymeric thermometers with a memory function is reported that is based on the supramolecular host-guest interactions of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) with side-chain naphthalene guest moieties and the tetracationic macrocycle cyclobis(paraquat-p-phenylene) (CBPQT(4+)) as the host. This supramolecular thermometer exhibits a memory function for the thermal history of the solution, which arises from the large hysteresis of the thermoresponsive LCST phase transition (LCST = lower critical solution temperature). This hysteresis is based on the formation of a metastable soluble state that consists of the PNIPAM-CBPQT(4+) host-guest complex. When heated above the transition temperature, the polymer collapses, and the host-guest interactions are disrupted, making the polymer more hydrophobic and less soluble in water. Aside from providing fundamental insights into the kinetic control of supramolecular assemblies, the developed thermometer with a memory function might find use in applications spanning the physical and biological sciences.

RESUMO

A series of oligo(ethylene glycols) was efficiently tosylated by ultrasound procedure within dichloromethane in the presence of triethylamine. Results show that sonochemical synthesis of oligo(ethylene glycol) ditosylates has a double advantage since it does not use catalysts and it drastically reduces the reaction time. This straightforward method represents an eco-friendly alternative to the traditional tosylation by pyridine synthesis.

RESUMO

In this article, we report the formation of micelles from a tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) end-functionalized poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (poly(NIPAM)) derivative (1). We have determined the critical aggregation concentration (CAC) and average diameter of the micelles using fluorescence spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering experiments, respectively. We have exploited the NIPAM backbone of the polymer to thermally transform the swollen hydrophilic poly(NIPAM) derivative to a more globular hydrophobic state at the lower critical solution temperature (LCST). Finally, we have shown that we can exploit the chemical oxidation and complexation properties of the TTF unit to disrupt the micelle architecture to release the hydrophobic dye Nile Red from the interior of the micelle.

RESUMO

A new tripod molecule containing an aromatic core bearing three peracetylated cyclodextrins was synthesized via a microwave-assisted Huisgen 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition and was studied by fluorescence spectroscopy. The photoluminescent properties of complexation phenomena with different pesticides were evaluated in acetonitrile. Fluorescence titrations have been performed to calculate binding constants, sensitivity factors, and limit of detection of the resulting complexes. 2D NMR experiments confirmed the inclusion of pesticide in the hydrophobic cavity of the macrocycle and validated the supramolecular association responsible for the quenching of the fluorescence.
